It sucks!

And Obama proposed a dozen programs guaranteed to complete his mission of bankrupting the country.

And then he lied about his plans saying, they "won’t add a single dime to the deficit."

Although, to be fair, spending trillions of dollars is technically not spending "a single dime."

Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer blasted the content of Barack Obama’s State of the Union address on Fox News Monday, saying it was about "spending your way to prosperity." He labeled the speech as somewhat self-serving as Obama tries to establish his "legacy."

That being said, Krauthammer admitted it was "a very effective address" in a political sense. Obama painted Republicans as the party that protects the rich and tax loopholes and framed himself as the protector of the middle class.

Meanwhile, red-state Democrats may find themselves between a rock and a hard place during Obama’s second term due to gun control, he explained.

"One of the things that these red-state Democrats who are going to go up for re-election in the next year are scared to death about is precisely having to vote. And here was Obama saying over and over again, ‘You deserve a vote. You want to be on the record,’" Krauthammer said. "Well, there are a lot Democrats who don’t want to be on the record on all of these issues, and I think he will endanger them."

Ultimately, Obama wants to be "remembered for a man who changed America" and will spend as much taxpayer money as it takes.

"I think he’s looking for his legacy," he added. "He wants to be remembered for a man who changed America -- that’s what he said. He started with Obamacare, and now this litany of programs. You know, he says,’ You can’t cut your way to prosperity.’ This speech is about spending your way to prosperity."

Obama discovers money growing on trees

Keith Koffler says that on Monday, Barack Obama discovered money growing on trees on the South Lawn of the White House, a startling development that allowed him to propose government initiative after government initiative during his State of the Union address even as the nation heads toward piling up $17 trillion in debt.

"It's incredible," said a tearful Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). "The White House informed us just this morning. Money really does grow on trees. Now we can spend it forever."

A senior White House official said Obama was on his daily walk across the South Lawn Monday morning searching for four leaf clovers when he discovered money growing on several ancient magnolia trees. The trees had been planted by Woodrow Wilson, who is credited by some with launching the modern welfare state. Now, the trees have finally borne fruit.

White House aides said the discovery that money grows on trees is at the root, so to speak, of Obama decision to include in the State of the Union a litany of new government programs while outlining hardly any specific ideas about how to cut spending.

The trees sprout $100,000 bills, which coincidentally include a portrait of President Wilson. White House economic advisers were seen by tourists picking currency all day Monday and Tuesday. Bills magically grew back on branches within seconds of being plucked.

A tourist who jumped the White House gate offering to "help out" was run down by a Secret Service-trained German Shepherd and taken away in handcuffs.

White House National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling was taken to George Washington University Hospital after taking a fall off a ladder while trying to reach one of the higher branches. "We're still going to raise taxes," he mumbled as he was placed into an ambulance. Sperling suffered only a bruised ego and was expected to make a full recovery.

Spurred by his historic horticultural discovery, Obama in his speech offered up all manner of new fiscal commitments.

He proposed public-private "manufacturing hubs;" an "Energy Security Trust that will drive new research and technology to shift our cars and trucks off oil for good;" funding for research on cleaner-burning natural gas; federal support for energy efficient buildings; massive infrastructure spending; money for preschool education for every child in America; funding for high schools that focus on science and math; spending on scientific research; funding to rebuild vacant homes in rundown neighborhoods; "resources" for publics safety, eduction and housing in struggling communities; and tax credits for businesses that hire there.

And those are just the proposals that made it into the speech.

"Most Americans -- Democrats, Republicans, and Independents," Obama said, "understand that we can't just cut our way to prosperity."

Internal polling by White House political aides identified these same Americans as the ones who believe that money grow on trees.

Turns out they were right.

Does Obama have a short memory -- or is he all bullshit?

In the 2009 State of the Union address, Obama promised to "cut the deficit in half" by the end of his first term.

Here are the facts from the Office of Management and Budget:

The Obama record:

Today, there are now 2.6 million more people living below poverty.

Food stamp rolls under Barack Obama have risen to more than 47 million people in America.

Over 8,803,335 Americans are on disability up from 7,469,240 in February 2009.

The median household income has dropped $4,520, or about one month’s average wages, since Obama took office.

US incomes fell more during the so-called recovery than the recession.

Gas prices have doubled.

Taxes have ballooned.

This year alone working Americans making between $30,000 and $200,000 will see their paychecks shrink by as much as 1.7 percent -- $1,784.

Obamacare will punish working Americans with more taxes

And Obama's solution is to spend trillions more.

Since every speech Obama gives is about him let's call the State of the Union what it really is...

Did you notice the urn?

Obama's most audacious SOTU lie

David Catron says it is difficult to say with certainly which of the many whoppers Barack Obama told tonight took the most crust to utter, but my money is going on this assertion, made a few minutes into the speech: "Already, the Affordable Care Act is helping to slow the growth of health care costs." I know "Orwellian" has now become rather hackneyed, but there is simply no other adjective that better describes this statement. It is not merely a lie. It is the precise opposite of the truth. It is just as absurd as "war is peace" or "freedom is slavery."

Portents of this stretcher began appearing over the weekend in the usual media outlets, and a particularly transparent harbinger appeared in Forbes of all places. In a column titled, "New Data Suggests ObamaCare Is Actually Bending The Healthcare Cost Curve," Rick Unger writes that "A new Congressional Budget Office report out last week has the healthcare world scratching its head over the possibility that ObamaCare might -- in part -- be responsible for what is being described as a significant slowdown in the growth of healthcare costs in America."

It hardly needs to be said that the report to which Unger refers fails to support his or Obama's claims. First of all, the slowdown began before ObamaCare passed. Specifically, it began to manifest itself in an obvious way during 2009. Moreover, cost data are only available through last year: "National health expenditures grew at an estimated annual rate of 4.3 percent in 2012, a bit higher than the 3.9 percent experienced for each of the years 2009-2011. While this estimate is subject to revisions, it portends a fourth consecutive year of record-low growth."

In other words, Obama and his media toadies are crediting ObamaCare with a slowdown that began a year before it passed and four years before the law took effect. Thus, having set the bait in his headline, Unger switches to the primary reason for the slowdown: "To be sure, a big part of the decline in healthcare spending is the result of the recession's impact.… Indeed, up until this point, most analysts have agreed that the poor economy was pretty much the sole cause for the improvement we have seen in containing the explosion of healthcare spending."

Unger makes much of the fact that Douglas Elmendorf, director of the CBO, is cautiously "willing to say that a ‘significant part' of the savings are the result of structural change in how healthcare is now being delivered." But even the New York Times admits that "A major question raised by Mr. Elmendorf and others is whether the spending will accelerate again. (It slowed in the 1990s only to pick up again last decade.)" The Gray Lady quotes former CBO director Douglas Holtz-Eakin thus: "Premature celebration never makes sense when it comes to health care."

Meanwhile, more objective observers are a good deal less sanguine about ObamaCare's effect on health care costs. The Wall Street Journal, for example, puts it as follows: "Health-insurance premiums have been rising -- and consumers will experience another series of price shocks later this year when some see their premiums skyrocket thanks to the Affordable Care Act, aka ObamaCare." Why? Because ObamaCare forces health insurers to accept everyone, forbids them from charging more based on the insured's medical condition, and includes numerous coverage mandates whose upward pressure on premiums I wrote about years ago.

All of this puts upward pressure on health care costs in general. When Obama was running for the office, he promised to save the average family a lot of money in insurance premiums. But the Wall Street Journal goes on to point out, "Although Obama repeatedly claimed that health-insurance premiums for a family would be $2,500 lower by the end of his first term, they are actually about $3,000 higher  --  a spread of about $5,500 per family." It would have been interesting to hear Obama address that point in his State of the Union address.

Listening to Obama's address on Tuesday night, I was reminded of something I read last week from Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Letters and Papers from Prison. Bonhoeffer was, of course, a German theologian who lived during the Hitler era. Unlike today's progressive poseurs, he spoke truth to power when it cost something. While sitting in a cell, awaiting death for that crime, he wrote: "For evil to appear disguised as light, charity, historical necessity, or social justice is quite bewildering to anyone brought up on our traditional ethical concepts."

No, I'm not comparing Obama to Hitler. But I am saying that the never-ending stream of prevarication that emanates from the White House and its media toadies is indeed bewildering to anyone who tries to live honestly. And most of the propaganda is specifically designed to camouflage crimes against the Republic like ObamaCare. That abomination is not helping to slow the growth of health care costs. It is driving them through the roof. Obama lied yet again.

A Castro-like speech in English

Mark Levin weighed in on Barack Obama's State of the Union Address tonight on Hannity. "A Castro-like speech, albeit in English. Why do you have to keep lying to the American people. Lie after lie after lie."

Cross-posted in Obama is a big, fat liar.

In Obamunist New-Speak, these are not "lies", but necessary political re-education (propaganda) to lead the Sheeple into Hope and Change.

The end justifies the means.  Today's "lies" are tomorrow's Holy Edits.  Or Fatwas.

It's really tragic. Obama just lies and lies -- and not a word is spoken by the compliant ObamaMedia.

Jefferson once put it, "free press" is not primarily about freedom of expression, it is about maintaining the proper "basis of America government":

The basis of our government being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.

The purpose of a "free press," in other words, was not simply for the press to report whatever they felt like. The free press was only free if they reported news and events in such a way that their work guaranteed that the "opinion of the people" would remain "the basis of our government" -- of American government.

Hypocrisy alert!  The above was published by the Huffington Post in an article critical of george W. Bush.
