Steve McCann says the mask is fully off.  Barack Obama is the most corrupt, power-mad politician in this nation's illustrious history.  By his actions in bypassing Congress and making appointments that should be subject to Senate approval while the Senate is still in session and innumerable extra-constitutional actions since he was inaugurated, he is following in the footsteps of the despots who dominated the 20th century.

In late September of 2008, it became clear to me that Barack Obama would be elected.  Based on his background, education, motivation, and indoctrination, I saw a man who could single-handedly destroy the country and someone with no respect for the history, the Constitution, or the people of the United States.  The specter of a megalomaniac who was a stranger to the truth and would or say or do anything to achieve or retain power overcame me.  In Barack Obama and his fellow travelers, I saw what I feared the most since I came to this country: a person and a political mindset that would, if allowed, spell the end of the noblest experiment in the history of mankind.

It was at that point that I wrote my first article for American Thinker in an attempt to warn the people of America that the result of the 2008 election would be critical to the nation's survival.  This was the first column I had written since my college days over 40+ years before, and I am eternally grateful to American Thinker for publishing it and giving me a forum to speak to the American people.

I had to survive a war that was precipitated by those who were initially elected by the people in a democratic fashion.  Yet once in power, they began to systematically usurp and overthrow the rule of law.  Their lust for power led them to shred any written constitution or traditions as they systematically imposed new regulations, laws, and executive orders geared primarily to centralize authority in the government as individual rights and liberties were extinguished.  In due course, they and their cronies became the government, as the people were powerless to stop them.

The people of Germany, the most advanced society in continental Europe, or Italy in the first four years of the 1930s, would have found it incredible to imagine what became of those countries by 1945.  They would not think it even remotely possible.

The history of the United States and its traditions of liberty and individual freedom should be a bulwark against the successful emergence of people like Obama and his cronies.  Yet why are the media, or the opposition party, or the members of Congress or the judiciary not shouting from the highest hilltop and taking action to stop these power-grabs?  Has this country enjoyed peace and prosperity so long that everyone is jaded and preoccupied with him-- or herself, or in a self-induced stupor either ignoring what's happening or saying that these unconstitutional steps are minor?  Is it because Obama happens to have black skin and everyone is too intimidated by political correctness to speak?  Or is it as it was in Germany, Italy, and Russia among many -- a belief that the worst could never happen here?

I have seen and experienced the worst that man can offer, I am not intimidated, and I will say without reservation that Barack Obama and his cronies have the same mindset in their tactical approach, philosophy, and lust for power that was extant in Benito Mussolini and the Fascists in the early days of their regime.  If the apologists for those in power in Washington want to vilify me for that comparison, so be it.

To the American people, it is far beyond time to wake up to who this man in the White House is and what his ambitions are.  As for the Republicans in the Congress or running for office, the task is upon your shoulders to stop Barack Obama in his tracks before he goes any farther.  It is time to do your sworn duty to preserve and protect the country.  And for the Democrats who are so blinded by party loyalty that they would sell their country for the proverbial thirty pieces of silver, the long-term difficulties and potential downfall of the greatest nation on earth will be your legacy.

Mark Levin mentioned something last night about it seems like Obama is following the Russian Constitution.  I didn't catch the whole comment, so listening to the replay right now.  But that would make a lot of sense and maybe it was the Russian Constitution that he was a scholar of...

Thank you Mr. Beckwith for being a great patriot and having this forum to get out the truth. I have read through all the postings and it confirmed what I and others know about Barack Obama and what he and the despicable people behind him are attempting to do to this great nation. I only hope we have the strength and resolve to stop it and turn it back, it is a challenge that we must win. If Obama manages to steal this next election, my wife and I are making plans to leave the country for a while until freedom and liberty are restored, if ever.

Okay, Mr. Levin was quoting from the 1936 Soviet Union Constitution.  Sounds ideal for the Libs and Obama now days. Rights to everything under the sun for free.  That part starts at about the 7 min mark  on 1/5/12's show if you want to hear it. http://www.marklevinshow.com/sectional.asp?id=32930

Very interesting considering what we know about Obama (and what we don't).

"Dictator" Obama "coming out of his chrysalis"

With recent moves such as "recess appointments" widely regarded as unconstitutional and a declaration that he must act without Congress, Barack Obama is becoming increasingly brazen, says top-rated talk-radio host Michael Savage.

"We’re watching a dictatorship emerging now where he is literally coming out of his chrysalis and showing his true nature," Savage told his listeners last night.

Referring to Haiti’s family of dictators, Savage said that Obama is a "Junior Doc Duvalier" but soon will become a "Papa Doc," with "one unconstitutional move at a time with virtually no opposition."

"This is, of course, how power is grabbed, day after day," he said.

Savage warned that if Obama wins re-election, America will become like Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s dictatorship.

The most egregious event yesterday, Savage said, was Obama’s announcement at the Pentagon that he wants to slash the U.S. military budget.

Savage said if Obama gets his way with the military he will make the U.S. a "paper tiger."

"When you look at the photograph of the so-called Joint Chiefs of Staff, what you see are yes men who are afraid of losing their positions," he said.

"Not one of them had a word of opposition to Obama, who said we will no longer be able to fight two wars."

Savage said Obama clearly is appeasing his "radical base."

"The left wing has long desired to destroy the military," he said.  "Obama is a radical of the highest order."

If Obama is reelected, Savage said, "eliminating the Second Amendment" will follow.

"If they can gut the military, and not a peep comes out of the media, why couldn’t he seize your guns?"

Obama, Savage said, "is getting away with every dream of the radical left, one step at a time."

On Wednesday, against the position of his own Justice Department, Obama made four "recess appointments" while the Senate was not in a declared recess.  He filled three spots on the National Labor Relations Board and appointed former Ohio attorney general Richard Cordray to head the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an intrusive federal agency established last year by the Dodd-Frank law.

Also on Wednesday, Obama declared in a speech in Shaker Heights, Ohio, that, if necessary, he would move his agenda forward without Congress.

Referring to opposition from conservative Republicans, he said that "when Congress refuses to act, and as a result, hurts our economy and puts our people at risk, then I have an obligation as president to do what I can without them."

"The man is out of control," Savage said.

Former AG Meese: Obama’s "recess" appointments are a "constitutional abuse of a high order"

Dr. Susan Berry is reporting that in a Washington Post editorial Thursday, Edwin Meese, the former U.S. Attorney General under President Ronald Reagan, and Todd Gaziano, Director of the Heritage Foundation’s Center for Legal and Judicial Studies, wrote that Barack Obama’s unilateral appointment of three individuals to the National Labor Relations Board, and of Richard Cordray to head the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, while the Senate was not in recess, is a "breathtaking violation of the separation of powers and the duty of comity that the executive owes to Congress."

The authors asserted:

…never before has a president purported to make a "recess" appointment when the Senate is demonstrably not in recess. That is a constitutional abuse of a high order.

The beauty of this editorial is that Mr. Meese and Mr. Gaziano provide instruction to handle the rogue Obama who continues to thumb his nose at the Constitution.  They continue:

President Obama’s flagrant violation of the Constitution not only will damage relations with Congress for years to come but will ultimately weaken the office of the presidency.  There eventually may be litigation over the illegal appointments, but it will be a failure of government if the political branches do not resolve this injustice before a court rules…Congressional leaders of both parties must vigorously (though thoughtfully) defend their prerogatives.  Senators could filibuster all presidential nominations, as Sen. Robert C. Byrd did in 1985 over a lesser recess appointment issue, until Obama rescinds these wrongful appointments.  The House or Senate could condition all "must-pass"  legislation for the remainder of 2012 on an agreement to rescind these appointments.  The House also could require the attorney general to produce legal justification and testify at oversight hearings.

The authors conclude:

If Congress does not resist, the injury is not just to its branch but ultimately to the people.

As if we were not already aware, "Congress" includes Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who, naturally, praised Obama for trampling over her branch of government.  Regarding Obama’s power grab, Mrs. Pelosi said, "…we’re glad that the president took the lead, went out there, it was bold and made the appointments."  (Translation: How else can I get the things I want since I’m no longer Speaker?)

But, "Congress" also includes Speaker John Boehner, whose response to the bird he was just flipped was that Obama's action is "bad for jobs."  Mr. Boehner said, "This action goes beyond the President’s authority, and I expect the courts will find the appointment to be illegitimate."

So that’s it?  Just file a lawsuit and get back to the business of the day?  No defense of the Constitution, of the separation of powers?  No conditions placed on future legislation?  No talk of impeachment?

Below are some of the Republican presidential candidates’ responses, that were available to date, to the president’s heinous actions:

Ron Paul: "By making 'recess' appointments to the Consumer Financial Protection Board (CFPB) and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) when Congress is not actually in recess, President Obama has acted in clear disregard of the Constitution…And the President must be called to account for his actions."

Newt Gingrich: "The answer to an imperial president is a Congress which stands on its own rights.   And the correct response to what the president just did would be for the Congress to zero out and refuse to fund the National Labor Relations Board.  The National Labor Relations Board now has a majority of members who were never confirmed by the U.S. Senate.  This is a clear violation of the spirit of the law, and Congress has an obligation to defend our rights, and the correct way is the power of the purse.”

Mitt Romney: "Just back from vacation, President Obama has wasted no time in returning to one of the top items on his agenda: doling out favors to his big labor political allies and giving them a dangerous level of power over businesses and workers.   His recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board give this unaccountable and out-of-control agency the authority to continue acting in ways that create uncertainty for businesses, drive up their costs, and discourage hiring or investment.   President Obama’s preference for partisan politics over economic growth will only hurt the millions of middle class families across the country who lose out every time the union bosses win.   As president, my focus from day one will be on getting our economy turned around by pursuing policies that strengthen rather than stifle job creation.”

Rick Santorum: "I hope that the United States Senate does what they’re supposed to do, and they should go and even take the president to court.  This is not something that the president should get away with."

I know "It’s the Economy, Stupid."  But, for whatever it’s worth, the major issue of the upcoming election is whether our Constitution, and the nation as we know it, endures.  In my book, presidents and members of Congress who violate the Constitution, or fail to uphold their oaths to defend it, are, in a word, unelectable.

Congressman Bill Johnson to investigate possible "impeachable offenses"

Bill Johnson (R-GA) joined Neil Cavuto on Fox Business vowing to find out if Barack Obama violated the Constitution when he made "recess" appointments when the Senate was clearly not in recess.

Says if attorneys believe Obama has violated the Constitution, he will act.

I just read, this morning, on the Daily Caller, that the 2 recess appointments Obama made to the NLRB were not even on a list of considerations for the Congress. It would be hard to 'obstuct' a nominee whom they hadn't even known about.

This man is TOTALLY out of control, would that he'd ever actually been in control of anything but his dangerous ideology, and his dangerous communist friends and appointee's. This country is in perilous waters. Is Washington such a mire, that no one in a position to do anything about it, will actually do anything about it?????? IMPEACH!!!!!!

My predictions

It is not hard to predict what leftists, Marxists and Communists will do. They use the same old commie playbook that has been around for years. All it takes is the courage to admit the truth, and see what is clearly in front of you.

Jesus often said to those He was speaking to, "those who have ears to hear, let them hear..."

Everyone there had ears on their head, so obviously some choose not to hear the truth, some choose to dismiss the truth, and others, because of brainwashing or propaganda, did not have the ability to hear the truth.

1. The race card will be played early and often. Our comrade president and his cronies will work hard to convince every person of color in the USA that white folks hate them. This will be the most racial election in history, and not because of those on the right. The true racists and bigots in this country today reside in the Democrat Party. They feed on race hatred, they eat it like candy. They are the folks that examine everything through the prism of race.

2. The ObamaMedia will go even further down the propaganda hell hole than they have gone before. You may think the media could not be any more in the tank for Obama than they have been, but, trust me, it is going to get worse. They will cover-up mistakes, they will smear opponents, they will make stuff up and flat out lie to protect Obama.

3. Since 1975, there have been well over NINE THOUSAND reports of union violence. Unions have much at stake, and since many of them were paid off handsomely with the stimulus Democrat slush fund nonsense, they know the gravy train will be over if the Marxists are not re-elected. Expect more union thuggery and violence, a lot more. One of Comrade Obama's main Communist allies, Jimmy Hoffa, Jr., on Labor day, called on union thugs to "take the SOB's out".

(Oh, by the way, the regime has published new rules for employment agencies. In these new rules, every employment agency will have to supply the feds (Obama) with the names, addresses and phone numbers, of any persons they send to work at any business that is having a dispute with the thug unions. That way, union terrorists will have the means to know where you are). The media will not report or they will grossly under-report the increase in union violence. They will accuse TEA Party Patriots of violence when none occurs, but real union thuggery will go unreported.

4. Attacks on the producers and the wealthy in America will continue to escalate. This administration treats wealthy folks much like Hitler treated the Jews, and really, for the same reason. The Obama administration needs the producers money, much like Hitler needed the money that the Jews had. It is Liberal government greed that is running wild. One of the great Liberal lies is that the rich persecute the poor, when in fact, it is the poor that persecute the rich.

5. Smears and lies against Republican women will escalate. Conservative women will be slandered, smeared, investigated, lied about, and their families attacked. Ask Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Meg Whitman or Christine O'Donnell. The accomplishments of these fine women will not be reported, and lies will be reported as fact.

6. Television networks will start playing more and more movies or programs that demonizes business. Expect more programs that show men (especially white men) in a bad light, and programs that degrade Christianity. Along with that will come programing intended to show that the poor little ol' Muslims are just misunderstood, and driven to their hatred by evil white men in America.

7. Government agencies, controlled by installed leftists, will begin to lie, even more than they are now, to make it appear that the Socialist agenda is working. They will lie about unemployment numbers. They will lie about economic numbers. They will lie about their waste and fraud.

8. Democrats will continue to lie about the true effects of ObamaCare on Seniors, and will demonize those Conservatives that truly want to repair the Ponzi scheme that is Social Security. Some seniors will be used as props, as reporters, in the tank for Obama, film seniors crying big tears, claiming that they are afraid Republicans are going to starve them or make them eat dog food.

9. The Obama inJustice Department will begin investigations on law abiding groups that oppose Dear Leader. Patriotic groups that speak out against the job murdering policies of this regime, will face harrassment and investigations aimed at shutting them up.

10. The Obama regime and their allies will ratchet up the voter fraud. More dead Democrats than ever will vote. There were incredible amounts of Democrat voter fraud in the last election (the last dozen elections really). More people voted for Democrats in Detroit than live there. Of course, this voter fraud was not investigated or dealt with because Democrats need voter fraud to survive. Democrats will work to see that as many illegals as possible vote. (Illegals got Harry Reid re-elected in a State where the Reid-Pelosi-Obama policies devastated the economy)

11. Radical leftists will take to the streets to do violence and property damage and disrupt normal business. The media will lie and claim that the TEA Party is to blame for the violence.

12. Voter intimidation will rise dramatically in the black community. Many black Americans, who are now waking up to the devastation that Democrats have levied against them with misguided policies, will be in danger of real harm if they stand against Comrade Obama.

13. Homosexuality and deviancy will be promoted like you have never seen before. Homosexuals will be prompted to make phony charges of discrimination and hate crimes.

14. The leftist propaganda in higher education will increase ten fold. Don't be surprised if your son or daughter is pounded with even more liberal lies instead of honest instruction. Your child will sign up for a class to study German, and instead, will be peppered with anti-American propaganda.

15. The IRS will be unleashed, even more than they are now, to hammer away at businesses, or individuals, that stand against, or fail to contribute to, the Obama regime. Much like the MOB operated, the IRS, or other government agencies will work to destroy opponents. Remember, liberals can never win in the arena of ideas so they have to cheat.

I can make these predictions with confidence because Liberals have nothing new. Marxism is not new. Government abuse is not new. Our Constitution was working fabulously, until liberalism crept into our society and began to eat away at our foundations like termites.

When comrade Obama was anointed the savior of the Earth and oceans, etc., I wrote, in frank terms, about the impending disaster that would come with Marxists in power.

Some cried that I was too harsh, and yet 2 1/2 years later, I was right about Obama and what his policies and hatred of America would do to this country. I said he was a Marxist, and I think that has been fairly well established now to all but the most rabid leftists.

I fully expect that some kool-aid drinkers will challenge my statement that Obama hates this country.

They will say he loves America.

Well, just about every wife beater out there claims that he loves the woman he is punching in the face. Yet, it matters not what the wife beater says, as actions speak louder than words.

Can Obama win re-election? You bet your mule he can. I wish I could predict the outcome of the election, but a growing number of Americans appear to love Socialism, and many liberals have such a hatred of America, that they will be glad to go to Hell, just as long as they can take America with them.

We conservatives have better take this next election seriously. Unless you enjoy economic slavery, radial Earth worship and social deviancy, we had better look soberly at what is happening.

And Liberals, don't worry if your messiah is defeated. He'll be around for years, living fat on taxpayer cash, to do his best to bring down America. Or, since Hugo Chavez is reported to be in bad health, Obama could fit right in as Chavez's replacement.

Whoever wrote this gets it.

Seen in the McCook Daily Gazette --

Our country was born when citizens stood up to tyranny. Are we at war again?

How does a lawful citizenry fight lawless oppression? Will there come a time when those to whom we look for protection no longer respond; when you call the police and they don't answer? What then?

We may already be there.

Zina Brodovsky, US Citizen and Russian Immigrant: Do You See What I See?

Zina Brodovsky, March 24, 2012:

For years I was asking myself why most Americans cannot see what I see, cannot understand what I understand. And I came to a very disturbing conclusion – while the truth about horrible atrocities and unaccountable victims of the communist regime was hidden from us, the soviet citizens, the same truth was hidden from Americans.

And when I saw and heard American school children singing the praises of Barack Obama, my heart stopped beating. I saw my little 3-year-old daughter in front of the store window with Lenin’s portrait in it. Her tiny hand was raised in the salute and she was reciting the poem praising Lenin. That scene was repeating every day on our way from her Daycare school. The small crowd would gather around us. Nobody ever said  a word. Neither did I.

The rest is here...

Obama doubles down on his leftist radicalism

David Limbaugh says you can’t even casually surf the Internet on any given day without numerous reminders of just how radical Barack Obama is -- and this is during an election year, when it should be in his political interest to mask his radicalism.

Minding my own business, I happened on an article by Jacob Laksin on FrontPageMag.com, titled "Obama’s Pick for World Bank Hates Capitalism." I’d heard a bit about this before but hadn’t yet studied it. I’m so used to Obama’s extremism that such revelations hardly move me, much less surprise me. I know where he stands; I just wish everyone else did.

Obama has nominated Dartmouth College President Jim Yong Kim to head the World Bank. In 2000, Kim edited a collection of studies under the title "Dying for Growth: Global Inequality and the Health of the Poor."

The "book’s radical central premise," writes Laksin, is that "capitalism and economic growth (are) bad for the poor across the world." Kim co-wrote the introduction, which includes the claim that the book shows "that the quest for growth in GDP and corporate profits has in fact worsened the lives of millions of women and men." It says that even in those instances in which free trade and free markets have led to economic growth, they’ve done so without benefiting "those living in ‘dire poverty,’ one-fourth of the world’s population." Can’t you just hear Obama himself in those words?

One thing that helps the plight of the very poor, according to one chapter, is a socialized health-care system, such as the one in Communist Cuba. The chapter’s author touts that system because of the Cuban government’s "commitment not only to health in the narrow sense but to social equality and social justice." As we opponents of Obamacare have said repeatedly, Obamacare is hardly just about making health care more affordable or more accessible, neither of which it will do in the end, but is a stealth vehicle to greatly expand governmental control over limitless aspects of our lives to enable the leftist central planners to effectuate "social equality and social justice" under the innocuous guise of providing health care.

As with so many of its ideas, the left is wrong about the record of free markets on the poor, notes Laksin, who points to "overwhelming evidence" that economic growth raises income levels and reduces global poverty. But again, leftist ideologues aren’t motivated by a desire to improve the lot of the downtrodden, domestically or globally, but by a burning passion for statism.

This book is right out of Obama’s playbook. Can you not see the common thread running through these alleged glories of the Cuban system and Obama’s approach to health care and his war on oil, coal and gas, along with his corresponding commitment to green energy and his various stimulus bills, all of which increase our national deficits, debt and unemployment but greatly increase governmental control?

Obama’s nomination of Kim should be no surprise to anyone, considering his consistent record of radical associations and appointments, from Van Jones to transnationalist Harold Koh. For Obama, one’s radicalism is not a deterrent to one’s resume, but an enhancement. His appointment of Van Jones was not a mistake owing to the administration’s failure to vet him as Obama’s defenders later claimed once Jones’ radicalism was exposed. Obama appointed Jones precisely because his administration was intimately familiar with Jones’ views; indeed, the White House carved out a new position -- green energy czar -- specifically tailored for his worldview and then happily placed him in it.

Tearing myself away from this uplifting article, I next encountered one detailing Obama’s ongoing fulfillment of his promise to bankrupt the coal industry -- with his Environmental Protection Agency’s issuance of new proposed rules on carbon emissions, which will please the goddess Gaia but won’t do much for the production of energy, economic growth, jobs or the poor, for that matter. This was after watching a report on Fox News earlier that morning highlighting Obama’s obstruction of oil shale production based on other dubious environmental doomsaying.

Next, I saw John Fund’s piece on National Review Online outlining Obama’s background in the sordid community organizing tactics of famed leftist radical Saul Alinsky and Obama’s close ties with the now fallen ACORN. According to New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor -- in her new book on Obama -- Obama still thought of himself as a community organizer when he was senator. He still does today, and, Fund warns, conservatives should be prepared for his Alinsky tactics in the 2012 campaign.

Maybe this all wouldn’t be so exasperating if Obama didn’t hold himself out as a uniter, but he is the furthest thing from it, as he, if anything, is doubling down on his polarizing radicalism and his unswerving commitment to a statist agenda for America.

Not-So-Smooth Operator

Obama increasingly comes across as devious and dishonest.

Something's happening to President Obama's relationship with those who are inclined not to like his policies. They are now inclined not to like him. His supporters would say, "Nothing new there," but actually I think there is. I'm referring to the broad, stable, nonradical, non-birther right. Among them the level of dislike for the president has ratcheted up sharply the past few months.

It's not due to the election, and it's not because the Republican candidates are so compelling and making such brilliant cases against him. That, actually, isn't happening.

What is happening is that the president is coming across more and more as a trimmer, as an operator who's not operating in good faith. This is hardening positions and leading to increased political bitterness. And it's his fault, too. As an increase in polarization is a bad thing, it's a big fault.

The shift started on Jan. 20, with the mandate that agencies of the Catholic Church would have to provide services the church finds morally repugnant. The public reaction? "You're kidding me. That's not just bad judgment and a lack of civic tact, it's not even constitutional!" Faced with the blowback, the president offered a so-called accommodation that even its supporters recognized as devious. Not ill-advised, devious. Then his operatives flooded the airwaves with dishonest—not wrongheaded, dishonest—charges that those who defend the church's religious liberties are trying to take away your contraceptives.

What a sour taste this all left. How shocking it was, including for those in the church who'd been in touch with the administration and were murmuring about having been misled.

Events of just the past 10 days have contributed to the shift. There was the open-mic conversation with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in which Mr. Obama pleaded for "space" and said he will have "more flexibility" in his negotiations once the election is over and those pesky voters have done their thing. On tape it looked so bush-league, so faux-sophisticated. When he knew he'd been caught, the president tried to laugh it off by comically covering a mic in a following meeting. It was all so . . . creepy.

Next, a boy of 17 is shot and killed under disputed and unclear circumstances. The whole issue is racially charged, emotions are high, and the only memorable words from the president's response were, "If I had a son he'd look like Trayvon" At first it seemed OK—not great, but all right—but as the story continued and suddenly there were death threats and tweeted addresses and congressmen in hoodies, it seemed insufficient to the moment. At the end of the day, the public reaction seemed to be: "Hey buddy, we don't need you to personalize what is already too dramatic, it's not about you."

Now this week the Supreme Court arguments on ObamaCare, which have made that law look so hollow, so careless, that it amounts to a characterological indictment of the administration. The constitutional law professor from the University of Chicago didn't notice the centerpiece of his agenda was not constitutional? How did that happen?

Maybe a stinging decision is coming, maybe not, but in a purely political sense this is how it looks: We were in crisis in 2009—we still are—and instead of doing something strong and pertinent about our economic woes, the president wasted history's time. He wasted time that was precious—the debt clock is still ticking!—by following an imaginary bunny that disappeared down a rabbit hole.

The high court's hearings gave off an overall air not of political misfeasance but malfeasance.

All these things have hardened lines of opposition, and left opponents with an aversion that will not go away.

I am not saying that the president has a terrible relationship with the American people. I'm only saying he's made his relationship with those who oppose him worse.

In terms of the broad electorate, I'm not sure he really has a relationship. A president only gets a year or two to forge real bonds with the American people. In that time a crucial thing he must establish is that what is on his mind is what is on their mind. This is especially true during a crisis.

From the day Mr. Obama was sworn in, what was on the mind of the American people was financial calamity—unemployment, declining home values, foreclosures. These issues came within a context of some overarching questions: Can America survive its spending, its taxing, its regulating, is America over, can we turn it around?

That's what the American people were thinking about.

But the new president wasn't thinking about that. All the books written about the creation of economic policy within his administration make clear the president and his aides didn't know it was so bad, didn't understand the depth of the crisis, didn't have a sense of how long it would last. They didn't have their mind on what the American people had their mind on.

The president had his mind on health care. And, to be fair-minded, health care was part of the economic story. But only a part! And not the most urgent part. Not the most frightening, distressing, immediate part. Not the 'Is America over?' part.

And so the relationship the president wanted never really knitted together. Health care was like the birth-control mandate: It came from his hermetically sealed inner circle, which operates with what seems an almost entirely abstract sense of America. They know Chicago, the machine, the ethnic realities. They know Democratic Party politics. They know the books they've read, largely written by people like them—bright, credentialed, intellectually cloistered. But there always seems a lack of lived experience among them, which is why they were so surprised by the town hall uprisings of August 2009 and the 2010 midterm elections.

The rest is here...

I really wish writers of articles in these publications would take greater care in describing Barry as a "law professor". He never held the position of professor, he was a lecturer on the constitution, and a I suggest a very destructive one. Such statements elevate his status even among those readers the article is intended to influence.
