The left, in an attempt to turn the subject of freedom of religion into a women's health issue, is rallying women to fight against religious conscience with a false argument. I'm amazed that I've not heard a single fact from the pundits on the right about the warnings placed on every hormone prescription including "the pill".  To shorten the long list of side-effects, all of these prescriptions include the possible side-effects of heart attack and stroke!

A family pathologist tells of doing autopsies on young women who should never have died at such a young age. The one statistical correlation he found during the autopsies?  They were all on "the pill".

Setting aside the religious conscience issue, of the millions of women in this country taking hormones, no one has seen fit to mention this very real threat to women's health when they make the decision to take hormones for any reason.  The arguments by the left are every bit as contrived as  "poor little helpless Sandra Fluke", Georgetown activist for Planned Parenthood and their goal of eugenics controlled by the Marxists on the left.

Catholics, contraceptives and John Locke

Michael Gerson says it  is extraordinary how far some will go to knit the random scraps and patches of events into the quilt of a narrative. So the Susan B. Komen controversy, resistance to the administration’s contraceptive mandate, a stag party joke by Foster Friess and a cruel epithet from Rush Limbaugh somehow add up to a Republican war on women, sure to provoke the political backlash of an entire gender.

American women haven’t behaved as predicted or demanded. President Obama’s job approval has risen or, more recently, fallen independently of the chromosomal status of voters. Men and women, it turns out, resent dipping into their retirement savings to drive to work.

Gerson posits that the debate is not over, and the definition of religious freedom for institutions, not just individuals, is what is being besieged.

Obama to move forward with and expand contraception mandate

Tina Korbe is reporting that the Obama administration this afternoon released its “Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on preventive services policy.” Translation: President Barack Obama and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius are moving forward with their controversial contraception mandate, which requires even religiously affiliated employers to provide their employees with insurance that covers contraception -- even if those employers object to contraception on religious grounds.

But don’t worry: Secretary Sebelius says your religious liberty is assured, so it is assured.

“The President’s policy respects religious liberty and makes free preventive services available to women,” she said. ”Today’s announcement is the next step toward fulfilling that commitment.”

Never mind that, by drawing a distinction between actual churches and church-operated businesses like hospitals and schools, the administration effectively appropriated for itself the power to determine what constitutes ministry. Also, last I checked, there was no such thing as “free preventive services.”

Obama's eligibility lawyer's wife is running Sandra Fluke

Anita Dunn -- Obama's "I love Mao" staffer -- is the wife of Robert Bauer, Obama's eligibility lawyer.

The Obama Campaign has
illegally disbursed $3 million-plus to Perkins-Coie, Bauer's law firm, to keep Obama out of court and his bona fides sealed.

I think Fluke was manufactured to do more than get everyone off of the important issues. According to This woman is a hardcore, middle-aged, political left-winger, not any innocent law student." And as evidenced by Huston's article has quite the accomplished resume. For Obama it's a big step up from "Joe the plumber"

I am so sick of Fluke and this whole thing. Birth control pills were never covered under our insurance.  We wished they were but I didn't want the government to demand they be.  This was manufactured to get everyone off of the important issues and Rush stepped right into it and made it bigger.  Which is another whole issue but that one's easy enough to throw back into the lib and media's faces.

$9 Per month!

Gregory Gwyn-Williams is reporting that although Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke testified to the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee last month that contraception can cost a law student $3,000 over three years and that some of her fellow students could not afford it, a Target store only 3 miles from the law school currently sells a month's supply of birth control pills for only $9 to people who do not have insurance plans covering contraceptives.

That would make the total cost for birth control pills for a student who decided to use them for all three years of law school just $324.

Fluke was the sole witness who appeared on Feb. 23 before an all-Democratic panel chaired by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Imagine?  She lied.

When she stated that (her) argument to have the People pay for birth control and women's health, I almost fell over laughing, she is sooooo dense that it would take an earthquake of a 9.5 magnitude to crack her brain.....

With that statement, she lost every bit of credibility that she might have gained throughout her stupid life, she hasn't gott a clue.

Sebellius: Fewer babies means government savings

The Creative Minority Report says this is the sickest thing I've heard in days from the Obama administration. CNS News reports that HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told a House panel Thursday that a reduction in the number of human beings born in the United States will compensate employers and insurers for the cost of complying with the new HHS mandate that will require all health-care plans to cover sterilizations and all FDA-approved contraceptives, including those that cause abortions.

That's right your Health and HUMAN Services Secretary wants less humans. And that'll mean mad cash for all.

She's talking about the cost of ObamaCare going down if there's less people but what about Social Security. Doesn't that make is even less solvent than it already is?

And don't think that was some kind of misstatement. This is gospel to the left. In 2009, Nancy Pelosi said essentially the same thing.

"The family planning services reduce cost," Pelosi said, "One of the elements of this package is assistance to the states. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those -- one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government."

To many, babies are a miracle. But to many on the left, babies are a burden. Even a "punishment" as Barack Obama calls them.

So, according to their logic we can kill our way to prosperity.

Hey, how's that birth dearth working out in Europe? Everything ok over there?

Catholic bishops exhort faithful to oppose ObamaCare

The U.S. Conference of Catholic bishops is issuing a flyer to be distributed at Masses over the March 3-4 weekend that asks their congregation to voice their opposition to the Obama administration's requirement that all employers pay for their employees' contraceptives. The mandate, which President Obama has given just one year for compliance, would force Catholic hospitals - for instance - to pay for contraceptives, even though contrary to Catholic teachings. Besides the Catholic bishops, other religious groups, including non-Christians and secular people, have criticized the Obama administration's move as an unconstitutional intromission into religious freedoms and the freedom of association.

The bishops ask their congregations to contact their Members of Congress to voice their opposition to the rule. Here follows a slightly abridged version of the Sunday message:

From Tony Perkins' Washington Update

All of the time Barack Obama's legal team saved by refusing to defend marriage is about to be consumed by a multi-front mandate fight. Within days, a tidal wave of challenges is building across the country, as the contraception and abortion drug rule has already launched seven lawsuits--and counting. Michigan is leading the way with three separate challenges from The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, where two colleges and a religious broadcasting network are affected. Louisiana College, where I serve as a member of the board of Trustees, announced its case with the Alliance Defense Fund yesterday, joining Priests for Life and Ava Maria University in fighting to strike down the policy. "The Obama administration has purposely transformed a non-existent problem--access to contraception--into a constitutional crisis," said ADF attorney Mike Johnson. In true Obama Justice Department fashion, the administration said it wants to punt on this case as well! The President's team isn't defending the unconstitutionality of his oppressive mandate, instead saying they plan on modifying it down the road.

Adding to the religious liberty effort, FRC is continuing to mobilize its army of pastors and church leaders--as more than 2,500 made national headlines yesterday by signing our letter of opposition. Media outlets from across the country picked up on our press conference at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention as a sign of the united front the President now faces. As Dr. Richard Land told reporters yesterday, "We are not going to stand by and allow our God-given rights, protected by the Constitution, to be atrophied, neutered, confined and restricted." To hear why not, check out this clip of Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle (R-N.Y.) from our religious liberty webcast.

The war is on:  Obama’s Gestapo arrest Catholic priest for praying outside White House

Pat Dollard is reporting that the arrest comes after #Occupiers throw grenades at White House unmolested, and as #OccupyDC continues to illegally occupy park.

Father Denis Wilde, OSA, associate director of Priests for Life, was among six people arrested today during a peaceful protest outside the White House.
Father Wilde was representing Priests for Life at an organized protest of the HHS contraception mandate that violates the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of religion. Priests for Life yesterday filed a lawsuit against the Obama Administration that seeks to permanently block the implementation of the mandate because it imposes clear violations of conscience upon any American citizens who morally object to abortion and contraception.

Father Wilde and the other protesters, including the Rev. Pat Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition, were cited for "Failure to obey a lawful order" as they knelt in prayer in front of the White House. They each paid a $100 fine and were released from custody.

"Occupy Wall Street protesters have been occupying federal property for months, but when we kneel in prayer, the police are called in and we are arrested," Father Wilde said. "We knew that was the risk when we gathered today, and we will do it again regardless of the risk. What people of faith – of every faith – need to do now is stand with us."

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said the New York-based organization remains committed to battling the HHS mandate because it forces Americans to become morally entangled in practices they find objectionable.

"As an organization of Catholic clergy, as a corporation that employs 60 people of various religious backgrounds, and as a ministry whose very purpose is to protect and promote the pro-life teaching about the specific practices at issue in the HHS mandate, we are particularly well-positioned to fight against this intrusion of conscience," Father Pavone said.

To see the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York, on Wednesday, click here.

Priests for Life is the nation’s largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia. For more information, visit http://www.priestsforlife.org.

Obama’s actions are "Un-American"

"Welcome to government-mandated health care," Fmr. Gov. Sarah Palin said when asked about the contraception controversy going on between the government and the Catholic Church.

"Very poor politics they would choose such a battle," Palin said of the Obama administration. "One, to pick a fight with faith-filled americans. You know, we will fight as the Father had said earlier on the "Hannity" show, we’ll fight to the death for our freedom of religion and for the rights that are protected by our United States Constitution. This is an un-American act of our president. Anything that would violate an amendment within the United States Constitution is un-American."

Can Obama Order Grocers to Give Away Bread?

Terence Jeffrey says in October 2009, I published a column titled, "Can Obama and Congress Order You to Buy Broccoli?"

Now I need to ask a follow-up: Can Obama order grocers to give away bread?

I wrote the broccoli column after Sen. Orrin Hatch raised serious questions in the Senate Finance Committee about the constitutionality of President Obama's proposal to force people to buy health insurance.

"If we have the power simply to order Americans to buy certain products, why did we need a cash-for-clunkers program or the upcoming program providing rebates for purchasing energy appliances?" Hatch said. "We could simply require Americans to buy certain cars, dishwashers or refrigerators."

Inspired by Hatch's argument, I wrote in my column: "This is not a question about nutrition. It is not a question about whether broccoli is good for you or about the relative merits of broccoli versus other foods. It is a question about the constitutional limits on the power of the federal government. It is a question about freedom.

"Can President Obama and Congress enact legislation that orders Americans to buy health insurance?" I asked. "They might as well order Americans to buy broccoli. They have no legitimate authority to do either."

I later interviewed Hatch about the issue. "If that is held constitutional -- for them to be able to tell us we have to purchase health insurance -- then there is literally nothing that the federal government can't force us to do" Hatch said. "Nothing."
